Judy and Soni and Kaitlin are in Minneapolis playing Santa’s Elves this week! It is time to do all of our ordering for the 2015 Spring Season. On our way, we played a bit today. This perfect Japanese Anemone at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum was blooming it’s fool head off!
The Arboretum has a special ‘Nature in Glass’ display right now. Amazing!
We were inspired and worn out!

I have to admit I am really fickle when it comes to which flowers are my favorite. I mean, I love pansies in the spring. Well, always, actually, but especially in the spring.
And daffodils always make me happy.
‘Siloam Amazing Grace’ Daylily is an all-time summer favorite.
But I think that my all-time fav (at least for now) is ‘Coral Charm’ peony. The color is so unique. It isn’t orange. It isn’t red. It isn’t pink. It is a true, bright coral.
Another ‘charming’ thing about Coral Charm is that she isn’t expensive. Although after we all have been watching her bloom, the supply might get awfully short!
Time flies when you are having fun! We at The Flower House Garden Center have a hard time believing that the season has nearly come to an end.
It has been a strange spring. The weather has been cool and cloudy. But the false indigo (baptisia australis) is blooming its fool head off in front of the front yard!
The gas plant (dictanmus albus) in the display bed is screaming for attention.
Patty’s Plum oriental poppy is attracting attention at the gate.
They are all reminding us it is time to get out of the greenhouse and out into the sunshine!
So….. We are taking a break from June 29 through July 6. Not answering the phone. Not answering the door. Not making lunch. Just watering what needs it. Might take a couple flower pictures. Might plant a few of our own things. Maybe. Might pull a weed or two. Maybe.
Then we will be open from 10 am to 3 pm July 7-July 12. We will answer the phone. We will be happy to let you through the door. We will be tickled pink to help you with your gardening questions. We will even serve you lunch!
Our annual Garden Party is July 11 & 12. Sign up for door prizes, have lunch, check out our specials on garden accessories and perennials, stroll through the perennial beds and join us for dinner! Details will follow. 🙂
After July 13 we will be open by chance or appointment. But we will talk about that later.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for evidence of life below the oh-so-cold mulch. Today the daffodils burst forth in sun-shiny joy! Just in time for Mother’s Day!

Saturday was our annual Planter Play Day for Kids. These little ones take their planting very seriously!
They get to pick out their favorite flower, dig in the dirt, and have mac & cheese and hot dogs! What more can you ask for?
A little help from Mom.
We have been watching some of these kids grow up for years. These two first came when she was barely walking and he was smaller than she.
Nora and Emma are starting a new family tradition!
The best part of the day is the smiles!
Ava and Abi were proud of their creations.
But the smile on their baby sister was my favorite! Why don’t we as adults radiate that kind of joy when we smile? Maybe we need some Planter Play Days, too!
We are NOT open Sunday, April 27! Monday through Wednesday we are open from 9 am until 5 pm. Starting Thursday, May 1 we are open until 8 pm weeknights. 😉
